ALOHA!
So it’s been said:
This is the banana bread you’ve been driving for!
And that famous banana bread is on the Road to Hana!
THE famous banana bread in Maui is Aunty Sandy’s banana bread stand.
You can find this as you are doing the popular Hana Highway drive.
This is one of the famous food stops on the Road to Hana.
It’s located on the Keanae Peninsula just off the Hana Highway.
Whether or not you want to eat banana bread, a stop off to go to the small Keanae Peninsula can offer you grand scenic views of the Hana coast!
Aunty Sandy’s banana bread has been featured on TV on the National Geographic Channel.
It was a part of Gordon Ramsay Uncharted on an episode about Hawaii’s Hana coast.
I did watch the episode, and this was THE spot that Gordon Ramsay ate banana bread in Maui.
In addition to this stop for banana bread, Gordon Ramsay also made a stop for huli huli chicken.
A little bit more below about this Road to Hana banana bread stand!

IMPORTANT!!! If you want to do the back road to Hana, be sure to check the Maui County government website before you go. As of early June 2022, it is not possible to drive the Road to Hana as a loop because of a bridge repair. This is expected to take 2 months. You can still drive the Road to Hana as an out-and-back.
When can you get Aunty Sandy’s banana bread on the Road to Hana?
What hours is it open?
According to Aunty Sandy’s website, the banana bread stand is open every day from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
That said, it’s possible that they may sell out of banana bread before 2:30pm, so it’s better to go earlier rather than later!
So you may want to buy the banana bread on your way to Hana, rather than on the way back just to make sure you’ll get some!
How much does the banana bread cost?
When I went in February 2020, the cost of a loaf of banana bread was $6.
You might want to bring cash.
When I went, it was cash only under $10. So if you only want one loaf of banana bread and that’s it, be sure to bring along some cash! Add cash to your list of what to bring to Maui.
What else does Aunty Sandy’s sell?

Location of Maui’s famous banana bread
Aunty Sandy’s banana bread stand isn’t directly on the Hana Highway.
So it’s not one of those food stands that you’ll naturally come across as you’re driving along.
Basically, you’ll want to pay attention for the sign to Keanae. There is a sign, but it can be easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. So pay attention! 😜 It’s a small road off to the side that goes to the Keanae Peninsula. As you are driving towards Hana, it will seem like it’s a side road that goes straight ahead.
Once you pass Paia, it’ll likely take you over an hour to reach the Keanae Peninsula. And it can take longer with traffic.
Explore the map.
And then once you turn off to get onto the Keanae Peninsula, you’ll come across the first scenic lookout spot.
You can stop here to take in the views.
Then, keep driving!
Just a little bit down the road you’ll see Aunty Sandy’s banana bread and you can’t miss it.
There are a few parking spots.
If the parking is full, you can turn back around to park at the lookout area you just passed, or you can keep going and park at the next Keanae lookout, and then walk to the banana bread stand! It’ll be a few minutes walk from either lookout for a nice leisurely stroll along the Hana coast. The Keanae Peninsula is not that big.
Then once you’ve ordered your banana bread, you can sit outside and eat it!
There’s a small little outdoor seating area at Aunty Sandy’s.
Or you can take it to-go to eat it at another scenic spot of your choosing along the Hana Highway!
A 20 minute drive away is a picnic area near Puaa Kaa Falls.
And so there’s a food stop to consider on the Road to Hana!
