From the point that you turn off of the Hana Highway onto Keanae Road, it will take you 2 minutes to drive to the very tip of the Keanae Peninsula if you don’t stop at all.
But of course, the reason for visiting the Keanae Peninsula is to stop to take in the views!
And to eat that banana bread.
So the Keanae Peninsula could be a 10 minute stop on the Road to Hana, or you can make it into a 1 hour stop if you want to spend longer taking in the views or if you want to sit at the picnic area to enjoy your banana bread!

Here’s a bit of what it can be like to drive on the Keanae Peninsula!
So while the Keanae Peninsula can be found directly off the Hana Highway, it can be easy to miss. It looks like a side road, so you might drive right past it if you’re not paying attention!

You will likely not have any data, but GPS will likely generally work.
So you can download offline google maps (it’s free!) and follow along on your GPS to know when you’re getting closer.
As you are driving, you will see a sign pointing towards Keanae, and that is the road you will follow.
And then you’ll drive down the road, and you’ll come to sea level and your first glimpse of the Keanae coastline!
There are parking spots along Keanae Road, so you can get out and take in the views!
And then once you’ve taken in the views along Keanae Road here, you can keep driving!
Then, you will come to Aunty Sandy’s banana bread shop that’s located directly along the road.
Check the official website for current hours for Aunty Sandy’s before you go to avoid disappointment! If you arrive too early, they may not be open, if you arrive too late, you may also not get a chance to taste the famous Keanae banana bread! Typically the hours are 8:30am to 2:30pm (or until the banana bread is sold out!) but again, confirm hours before you go!
Then, once you’ve gotten your banana bread, you can keep driving!
You’ll come across a large open field on your right side. Here is the Keanae Park, where you will also find the Keanae church.
E komo mai to Keanae Park! This means welcome to Keanae Park! See more common Hawaiian words.
There is also a bathroom at Keanae Park so you can make it a Road to Hana bathroom stop.
And then as you keep driving, you’ll find more parking as you come to the tip of the Keanae Peninsula for more scenic views! You will see more lava rocks that make up the Keanae coastline.
And that’s a bit about a drive to the Keanae Peninsula!
