As it goes in Grand Teton National Park, there are ways to see the Teton mountain range!
And if you want to make a quick and easy stop for pictures of the Teton Range, the Cathedral Group Turnout is one spot that you can go!





Driving the Grand Teton scenic loop drive and Jenny Lake Road to Cathedral Group Turnout

You will find the Cathedral Group Turnout along Jenny Lake Road.
And you will get to Jenny Lake Road by driving the 42-mile Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.
If you want to see the Jenny Lake Overlook, then the Cathedral Group turnout will be along the way to the one-lane Jenny Lake Scenic Drive.
This is an easy stop to make as you are driving.
The Cathedral Group Turnout parking is located right off of Jenny Lake Road. There’s a parking lot for the Cathedral Group Turnout.

Hiking from Cathedral Group trailhead

If you are looking for a less crowded spot to start hiking, you can also use the Cathedral Group parking lot as a trailhead for starting a hike.
You can hike from the Cathedral Group turnout to meet up with String Lake Trail and Jenny Lake Trail. This isn’t the shortest way to hike to String Lake or Jenny Lake, but it is an option!


Cost to go to Cathedral Group Turnout
Cathedral Group Turnout is within the paid entry area of Grand Teton National Park.

So in order to go to the Cathedral Group turnout, you need to pay the national park entry fee. In 2021, this was $35 per car for a 7-day pass. (There is no one-day pass.) See current fees.

If you will be visiting at least 3 national parks in one year, then you may want to consider getting the annual national parks pass.

For reference, my drive to the Cathedral Group Turnout was in late September 2021 a little before 10am.

Driving to Cathedral Group Turnout

The Cathedral Group Turnout is located along Jenny Lake Road which you can access while driving the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.
Explore the map. If you are looking at this map in the winter and it’s showing that there are no driving directions available, it’s likely because the road is closed.
The quickest way from Jackson WY to Cathedral Group Turnout is around a 40 minute drive with no stops. If you follow google maps, then the route will be driving up the western side of the Grand Teton scenic loop drive. But if you’re making it a round trip from Jackson Hole, then you may consider doing the loop by starting off on the eastern side, and then loop back down on the western side to finish up the loop and to get back to Jackson Hole. The drive below is reflected entering Grand Teton National Park at the Moran entrance. If you are driving up from the south (like from Jackson) on the eastern side of the Grand Teton scenic loop drive, then this is how it would go too as you make the loop back around.

Driving along from the Moran entrance to Cathedral Group turnout, you’ll pass by Oxbow Bend. This is one of the most popular photo spots in the park.

Then you’ll continue driving along and come to the Jackson Lake Junction.
You’ll make a turn to continue the scenic loop drive and will start driving on Teton Park Road.
This is the road through Grand Teton National Park that runs along the base of the Teton mountain range. It’s the road that’s closest to the Tetons.
You will soon pass the Jackson Lake Dam overlook.

👆 You can stop by Jackson Lake Dam overlook on your way to Cathedral Group turnout.
You will continuing driving on Teton Park Road, and then you will soon be driving directly towards the Tetons, and you will be driving with amazing mountain views!
As you are driving with these amazing views, there are some small parking areas along the side of the road if you want to stop and get pictures. You will also pass the Potholes Turnout and Mount Moran Turnout.

👆 You can stop by Mount Moran turnout on your way to Cathedral Group turnout.
Then you will soon come to the Mountain View turnout.

👆 You can stop by Mountain View turnout on your way to Cathedral Group turnout.
Then it’s a little bit after the Mountain View turnout that you will see a sign for the North Jenny Lake junction. This is where you will turn to get onto Jenny Lake Road.




Then you will continue driving on Jenny Lake Road with mountain views!







Then you will see the Cathedral Group turnout as you are driving along Jenny Lake Road!





And then you can go for a little walk around to see the mountains!





And once you have taken in the views of the Teton Range from the Cathedral Group Turnout, you can continue driving along Jenny Lake Road!

If you keep driving, this will take you to the one-lane road of Jenny Lake Scenic Drive!
Then driving further on, it will bring you back to the main road, and you can continue on Teton Park Road for more of the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive!
