ALOHA!

You can see lava fields on Maui!

Lava fields are old lava flows.

And there are places you can go on Maui to see old lava flows.

Maui does not have any active lava flows (aka the red stuff) and hasn’t in quite some time.

This means that there’s no place that you can see flowing molten lava on Maui.

In general, the best island in Hawaii for volcanoes and lava fields is the Big Island.

There are lot of places to see lava fields on the Big Island… and that’s where the most recent volcano activity in Hawaii is!

But if Maui is where you’re going to be, there are worthy lava fields on Maui too!

Best places to see lava fields on Maui

The best places to see lava fields on Maui are Waianapanapa State Park and La Perouse Bay.

In both cases, the best way to see the lava fields is to hike!

I also don't go snorkeling in Hawaii without a personal swim float buoy. Not only does it help to keep me visible, but it makes for a perfect way to rest out in deeper water! Oh, and it also serves as a dry bag so I can take stuff into the water with me.

Another way I have taken valuables into the water with me is to wear a travel money belt that I don't mind getting wet with salt water (it's not waterproof but I have several so I just use one of them) and then I put things in a ziplock freezer bag, and put that freezer bag in the money belt.

There are also designated waterproof waist pouches that you can store your valuables and take into the water with you.
