The Keanae Peninsula is one of the great stops to make as you drive the Road to Hana.
Drive the Keanae Road, found directly off the Hana Highway on your way to Hana, and you will arrive at the tip of the Keanae Peninsula!
Here you will find amazing ocean views, along with old lava flows that make up the Keanae Point coastline!


How to see the Keanae Lookout

Hana Highway to Keanae Road
While Keanae Road is directly off of the Hana Highway, it’s easy to miss.
So you’ll want to be on the lookout for it!

Even if data does not work on the Road to Hana, GPS generally does.
So download offline google maps before you go (it’s free!) and follow along on your phone so know when you’re getting close!

👆 If you’re not paying attention, it’s very easy to miss that side road on the left to get onto Keanae Road as you’re driving the Hana Highway!

Driving to the end of Keanae Road
So once you’ve gotten onto Keanae Road, you’ll drive along a somewhat narrow road.
Then, you’ll get your first glimpse of the coastline from sea level on the Keanae Peninsula! There are parking spots here, so you can stop to get out for your the first amazing viewpoint on the Keanae Peninsula.
Then, once you’ve taken in the views, you can keep driving. The next noteworthy spot you’ll come across is Aunty Sandy’s banana bread. This is THE famous banana bread on the Road to Hana.
Then, you can keep driving further until you reach another parking area, and you’ve arrived at the Keanae Point!




From here, you can walk around and take in the views!
You can walk around on the lava fields, although it’s best not to get too close to the edge of the lava rocks in case of unexpected rogue waves that come crashing onto the rocks that you’re standing on.
