Wyoming road trip! Driving to Schwabacher Landing along Snake River for mountain views in Grand Teton National Park

As it goes in Grand Teton National Park, there are many mountain views to see!

And one of the spots that you can go to for pictures of the Teton mountain range is Schwabacher Landing.

This is a popular photo spot in Grand Teton National Park.

 

 

 

Driving the Grand Teton scenic loop drive to Schwabacher Landing Road

 

You get to Schwabacher Landing by driving the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.

The road to Schwabacher Landing is located directly off of the 42-mile Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive. This is the main road that goes through Grand Teton National Park.

You’ll come across Schwabacher Landing Road as you’re driving.

 

👆 You will be a sign for Schwabacher Landing Road as you are driving the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.

 

You’ll then turn onto Schwabacher Landing Road, and you’ll continue to drive with mountain views to get to the Schwabacher Landing parking lot!

 

 

Then you can start walking around Schwabacher Landing!

 

 

Part of the road to Schwabacher Landing is a gravel road.

 

 

 

 

There is also a bathroom at the Schwabacher Landing parking lot.

 

 

 

Cost to go to Schwabacher Landing

 

Schwabacher Landing is within the paid entry area of Grand Teton National Park.

So in order to go to Schwabacher Landing, you need to pay the national park entry fee. In 2021, this was $35 per car for a 7-day pass. (There is no one-day pass.) See current fees.

If you will be visiting at least 3 national parks in one year, then you may want to consider getting the annual national parks pass.

For reference, my drive to Schwabacher Landing was in late September 2021 around 10:30am.

Now…

Driving to Schwabacher Landing Road

 

Schwabacher Landing is located on the eastern side (“outer” loop) of the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.

 

Explore the map.

 

Jackson WY to Schwabacher Landing is around a 30 minute drive with no stops. If you go in this direction, then you can continue driving north and looping back around to Teton Park Road (the “inner” loop) which is the western side of the scenic loop drive to finish up the loop and to get back to Jackson Hole. Or, from Schwabacher Landing, you can continue driving north and on to Yellowstone National Park! You’ll go to the northern side of Grand Teton National Park to get to Yellowstone. (Although if this is going to be your only time driving through Grand Teton National Park, then you will want to decide if you want to drive up the eastern side or the western side of the loop from Jackson to Yellowstone.)

Schwabacher Landing to the Yellowstone National Park south entrance is about a 1 hour drive. Driving from Jackson to Yellowstone, Schwabacher Landing can be along the way if you choose to drive up the eastern side. Your first “real” stop in Yellowstone can be West Thumb which is on the southern side of Yellowstone. See more about driving from Grand Teton to Yellowstone.

 

I started the drive to Schwabacher Landing from just outside Bridger-Teton National Forest near the Hatchet Campground. I stayed in a budget room at the Hatchet Resort.*

So to get to Schwabacher Landing, I entered Grand Teton National Park at the Moran entrance, and this is how the drive is reflected below. This means I was driving south to get to Schwabacher Landing, towards Jackson.

So once you are driving the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive and you are near, you will see a sign for Schwabacher Landing Road.

And then you will turn to start driving on Schwabacher Landing Road!

This road will take you directly to the Schwabacher Landing parking lot.

 

 

And then you can go and take your pictures at Schwabacher Landing with the Snake River and Teton mountains together!

I did not walk very far, but you may want to walk further!

As per the National Park Service:

From the parking lot, hike north along a small channel of the Snake River about 350 yards (320 m) to a large beaver dam.

 

 

And once you’ve gotten the photos you want, you can walk back to the parking lot!

 

 

And then move on to more of the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive!
