ALOHA!
If you want a low-key night on Oahu directly along Waikiki Beach, you can absolutely walk Waikiki Beach at night with the sound of the waves right next to you!
This is one of the absolutely FREE things to do in Waikiki!
Of course, bad things happen everywhere, but in general, I did this Waikiki Beach night walk mostly between 9pm and 10pm alone as a female, and I never felt unsafe.
It was a Thursday night and there were enough people around to feel comfortable.
The point of this Waikiki Beach night walk is mostly to take it easy and do a whole lot of nothing… except for walking the beach!

The Waikiki Beach night walk below will take you to a part of Waikiki Beach that you’ll encounter a good number of people. (aka better for safety!)
Now, here’s a bit of what to see on your easy Waikiki Beach walk at night!

1. Duke Kahanamoku Statue

The Duke Kahanamoku Statue is along Kalakaua Avenue, right near the Waikiki Beachside Bistro.
So you can mark the start of your Waikiki Beach night walk with the iconic surfer statue of Waikiki!

When you are at the Duke Kahanamoku Statue, you can then look towards the right (as you are facing the ocean) to find the beach access near the Waikiki Beachside Bistro and the police station.
And then you can start walking along Waikiki Beach!

🌴
2. Moana Surfrider banyan tree

As you keep walking, you will see the Moana Surfer banyan tree.
You will know when you see it, because you can see it colorfully lit up!
This is one of the many banyan trees in Waikiki.

If you’re looking for another low-key way to spend your night in Waikiki, you can also go to the Moana Surfrider Beach Bar that is located at this banyan tree.

The Moana Surfrider hotel is also a historic hotel in Waikiki, also known as the First Lady of Waikiki, so it’s worth walking past it on the street side (Kalakaua Avenue) too so you can see its architecture! This is a Westin resort in Waikiki.

3. Duke’s Waikiki

If you continue walking along Waikiki Beach, you’ll next come across Duke’s Waikiki.
You’ll know when you see it, because you’ll see a bunch of torches lit up that are surrounding it!
You’ll also see outrigger canoes!
Duke’s Waikiki is one of the most popular restaurants along Waikiki Beach.
So once again, if you’re looking for another low-key way to spend your night in Waikiki, you can also go to Duke’s Waikiki.

4. Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar

And then if you continue walking along Waikiki Beach, you’ll next come across the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar.
You’ll know when you see it, because you’ll see a bunch of pink!
The Royal Hawaiian hotel is the famous pink palace hotel in Hawaii, so it’s worth walking this part of Waikiki Beach during the day too so you can better see the pink-ness of the palace!
The Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar is another one of the most popular restaurants along Waikiki Beach.
So once again, if you’re looking for another low-key way to spend your night in Waikiki, you can also go to the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar.
And yes, it is famous for the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai!

And this basically ends your Waikiki Beach walk!
So once you get to the beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian, you can have a seat on the beach to take in the Waikiki skyline at night and the sounds of the waves… or you can walk back!
The beach temporarily “ends” in front of the Royal Hawaiian hotel. It is possible to keep walking, but not on the beach. You will next be walking on the Sheraton Boardwalk, and there is no beach directly in front of the Sheraton.
The Sheraton Boardwalk is one of the great things to do in Waikiki for views during the day!
During the day, have a walk down the Waikiki Surfboard Alley to get to the Sheraton Boardwalk!
Where to start your Waikiki Beach walk at night
For this Waikiki Beach night walk, good points of beach access can be the Waikiki Beachside Bistro or the Waikiki surfboard alley, depending on which side of Waikiki you are coming from.

Waikiki Beachside Bistro (map)
This Waikiki Beach food spot won’t be open at night, but it can be an easy landmark to start your Waikiki Beach walk. Another landmark that is here is the Honolulu police station.

Waikiki surfboard alley (map)
There is beach access walking down the Waikiki surfboard alley, which is in fact an alley that leads to the beach! It’s located to the left of the Cheesecake Factory, as you’re facing the ocean. The Cheesecake Factory is open until 11pm. See the menu.
And that’s a bit about what can be a perfect Waikiki Beach walk at night!
