There are ubers at Kona airport.

Ride sharing is available on the Big Island at the Kona airport!

 

 

So if you’re not renting a car, Uber can be a good way to get to your Big Island hotel.

This means that you can take an uber from the airport into Kailua-Kona town, or to your Kona resort located elsewhere.

Kona Airport is not that big, and that can make getting an Uber from the airport pretty simple!

Where to find the Uber pick-up location at Kona Airport

 

This is basically how it was for me in 2019 anyway!

 

 

Welcome to the Big Island!!

 

Your intro to the Big Island can start before you even step foot on the Big Island! Depending on your plane’s flight route and the side of the plane you’re sitting on, you may be able to look out of the window to see vast lava fields! Okay, so you have landed in Kona!

Once again, with the Kona airport being pretty small, it’s basically an outdoor airport.

As soon as you step off the plane, you’ll get tropical island vibes!

 

 

You’ll then walk through the airport…

 

This is the waiting area past security check!

 

 

Collect your luggage

And then head to baggage claim if you’ve checked in your luggage.

 

Open-air baggage claim! 

 

Then once you’ve collected your bags…

 

 

Follow the signs for the ride share pick-up point

Keep walking out to the road, and then you’ll see the sign for where to go to get an Uber pick-up.

You’ll also see the sign for where to go for the car rental shuttle.

 

 

And then, walk over to the pick-up point!

This is just a few minutes walk.

Call for an Uber driver

Then, you can open up the Uber app to find out how long it’ll take for a driver to arrive and how much it’ll cost you at the time you are calling for one.

 

 

How much does an Uber cost from Kona airport?

This will depend on where in Kona or on the Big Island you’re going.

But you can expect an Uber to cost around $25 to $30 to downtown Kailua-Kona.

If you know where you’re staying (or where your first stop is) then you can open up the Uber app right now to get an estimate of the Uber fare.

For an even better idea, have a look at the uber app on the same day of the week and around the same time that your flight will be arriving to Kona. (On Hawaii time!)

 

And then once you’ve called for the Uber…

 

 

Wait!

 

You can keep checking the app to see how much longer the Uber driver will be.

 

 

And then when you’re driver arrives…

Get in the car!

 

In the app, you’ll be given the type of car and license plate number to match the car, so be sure to get into the correct car!

 

 

And then…

Enjoy your Uber ride!

 

 

And then…

Enjoy your time on the Big Island!!
