Hi there!
You can drive the slow scenic route along the A1A with a stop at St Augustine Beach!
It will actually be a bit off of the actual A1A with a drive on the A1A Beach Blvd in St Augustine Beach FL!
But no matter which section of beach you choose in St Augustine, you can be on the lookout for shells too as you are walking the beach!

Yes, it may be very possible to find shells on the beach when you go to St Augustine Beach!
I did come across a bunch of shells on St Augustine Beach!

The section of beach I went to was a private beach access.

But there are also public beach access paths for you to go shelling on St Augustine Beach.
If you drive along the A1A Beach Blvd (which is different from the A1A), then you will come across small little public access spots to the beach. For example: map.
These types of smaller public access spots tend not to have facilties (aka bathrooms) but they also tend to be more low-key than the main beach parking lots! (Like the St Johns County Ocean Pier, one of the main beaches of St Augustine Beach.)
And, with less foot traffic, that can mean better shelling opportunities! (So for shelling in Florida, it can always be good to walk away from the crowds!)
I also found shells on the beach up the road in Anastasia State Park too.
I went to look for shells on St Augustine Beach towards the end of the day.
On this day, it was a drive from Orlando to St Augustine.
I also saw a bunch of shells without trying too hard at St Augustine Beach.
There were also tons of crushed shells.
And this is also how it was shelling at South Ponte Vedra Beach that you can go to as you drive north on the way to Amelia Island where you may also find shells.
When I first started walking the access to St Augustine Beach, at first glance, the sand didn’t appear to have pure white sand. Well, that doesn’t look pretty for a picture, does it? 😂
I was actually a bit disappointed! 😆
But actually, it turns out, this is good news if you want to go shelling on St Augustine Beach!
Because those darker areas (in this case, orange-ish, reddish) that ruin the picture for a perfect white sand beach are… shells!

👆 If you don’t see a pure white sand beach at St Augustine Beach, hopefully it means you can find lots of shells!

There were a lot of shells that were scattered at the beach!
I did not try very hard at the St Augustine beach I went to and it was easy to find lots of shells!

If you want to give a shelling beach walk a try in St Augustine, then it can be FREE!
There is no St Augustine beach entry.
But, if you want to try shelling in Anastasia State Park, then there is a state park entry fee.
I saw shells at on St Augustine Beach in January 2023.
As it goes with shelling, your experience may vary!
I stayed overnight in St Augustine on the way from Orlando to Amelia Island.
I stayed at La Fiesta Ocean Inn, where there is private beach access, perfect for a St Augustine sunrise, and this is also where I found seashells! Read the reviews at partner website booking.com!
In the morning it was Blue Spring State Park to see manatees, then it was a drive along the A1A through Flagler Beach, and then to the Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, then the Fort Matanzas National Monument, and then finally… St Augustine Beach!
So basically the first thing I did once I arrived at the St Augustine Beach hotel was go towards the beach!

👆 WHY is that sand not white?! Oh, it might mean there are lots of shells at the beach! 😆

👆 Arriving at the beach, I see that as it turns out, you can drive on the St Augustine Beach.

And then onwards walking towards the Atlantic Ocean looking for shells on the beach at St Augustine Beach!
And you can start your search for seashells on St Augustine Beach!
I really didn’t walk very far at all along the beach and there were lots of shells!

If finding seashells excites you, then it’s very possible to have a happy shelling in St Augustine if it is like this!
You can start walking along St Augustine Beach to look for shells!
