Hi there!
You can drive the slow scenic route along the A1A with a stop at an Amelia Island beach!
And then you can be on the lookout for shells too as you are walking the beach!
Yes, it may be very possible to find shells on the beach when you go to Amelia Island beaches!
I did come across a bunch of shells on Amelia Island!

There are a lot of Amelia Island public access paths along the main road.
You will see the parking lots as you are driving the main road that’s closest to the coast.
I stopped by an Amelia Island beach at the end of the day.
It was a drive from St Augustine to Amelia Island.
I also saw a bunch of shells without trying too hard at St Augustine Beach. So you can go shelling in St Augustine too! There were also tons of crushed shells.
And this is also how it was shelling at South Ponte Vedra Beach that’s was on the way to Amelia Island.
And it was a pretty similar experience looking for shells on Amelia Island too!
Now, at first glance, the beach doesn’t appear to have pure white sand. Well, that doesn’t look pretty for a picture, does it? 😂
But actually, if you see some darkish areas (in this case, orangish reddish), then this is actually a good thing if your goal is shelling on Amelia Island!
Because those darker areas that ruin the picture for a perfect white sand beach are… shells!

👆 If you don’t see a pure white sand beach at Amelia Island, hopefully it means you can find lots of shells!

There were a ton of shells that were scattered at the beach on Amelia Island!
I did not try very hard at the Amelia Island beach I went to and it was easy to find lots of shells!

I got to the beach by taking one of the small Fernandina Beach public access spots.

Cost to go shelling on Amelia Island
If you want to give a shelling beach walk a try on Amelia Island, then it can be FREE!
There is no Amelia Island beach entry for the vast majority of Amelia Island public beach access.
You can also find free beach parking on Amelia Island.
But, if you want to try shelling on Amelia Island at the state parks, then there is a state park entry fee.
I did do a quick look for shells at Amelia Island State Park and did find shells, but I had a better shelling experience from the free Amelia Island beach access!

I stayed at the Sea Cottages of Amelia. (My picture above.)
While it’s not a beachfront hotel, it is also a 5 minute walk to the Seaside Beach Park. Or, you can drive. And then it’s a 2 minute drive!
More hotels near Seaside Beach Park include:
- Amelia Hotel at the Beach (right across the street from Seaside Beach parking)

Amelia Island shells along the beach
I saw shells at an Amelia Island beach in January 2023. As it goes with shelling, your experience may vary!
This was really just a quick trip to an Amelia Island beach to see if there were shells.
I was driving up the A1A from the south.
There’s a main road that goes north-south on Amelia Island, so it it parallel to the ocean.
Coming from the south side of Amelia Island, once you get closer to central Amelia Island, then you’ll start seeing a bunch of public access spots to get to the beach.
I stopped at one of these!

So you’ll pull into the parking lot, and the Amelia Island public beach access is right there!
And then, depending on which parking lot you choose, it may be more or less effort to get to the beach!
Some are sand dunes trails to get to the beach, and some are boardwalk trails to get to the beach.
So you can take your public access of choice until you get to the beach!

Once you’ve reached the end of the beach access trail, you might see reddish orange mixed into the sand!

And you can start your search for seashells on Amelia Island!

I really didn’t walk very far at all along the beach and there were lots of shells!

If finding seashells excites you, then it’s very possible to have a happy shelling on Amelia Island if it is like this!
You can start walking along the beach on Amelia Island to look for shells!
And even if you don’t find shells, an Amelia Island beach will always come with VIEWS of the Atlantic Coast!

And that’s a bit about finding some Amelia Island shells!
