Do you have to pay to see the Southernmost Point in Key West?
The famous icon of the Southernmost Point in Key West is a free public attraction, so you don’t have to pay to see it.
The Southernmost Point buoy a freestanding attraction on the street, so there is no official Southernmost Point entry spot.
It’s on a regular street and it’s just there.
If you are driving to Key West and all you want to do is SEE the famous icon of the Southernmost Point (and you don’t care about getting a picture), then you can just drive by to see it.
It’s out in the open, so it’s visible from the road.

But if you are driving to the Southernmost Point and you want to park as close to it as possible, then you have to pay to park for street parking near the Southernmost Point.
If you don’t mind a little bit of walking, then you can park a bit down the road from the Southernmost Point where there is free parking, and you don’t need to pay to park when you go to the Southernmost Point!
Maybe you will walk 10 minutes to get to the Southernmost Point from the free street parking.

Key West street parking near Southernmost Point
The Southernmost Point is in a walkable touristy area of Key West.
There is paid parking near Southernmost Point.
There is street parking pretty much right at Southernmost Point… if you can find an open space!
The Southernmost Point buoy is at a corner of where 2 streets intersect.
On both of these streets leading up to the Southernmost Point, there is street parking.
So for paid street parking near the Southernmost Point, locate the Southernmost Point on google maps, and look for the 2 streets leading to it. That can be your “destination” for where to start looking for street parking.

On Whitehead Street, there is one side that is for residential parking only. If you look on the ground, you will see that it is marked “residential” so just be just that you don’t park there.

Once you park, you’ll want to locate a parking payment station to make your parking payment.
You can follow the prompts.
There is a spot to insert your credit card.
There is a slot to insert coins.
You will also see instructions on the side of the parking payment station for how to pay online if you want to do that.

How much does parking near Southernmost Point cost?
The street parking fee near Southernmost Point is $5 per hour. This is as of May 2022.
You can pay the Key West parking fee for as little as 30 minutes.
30 minutes of parking near the Southernmost Point is $2.50.
But it’s probably better to pay for at least 1 hour just in case, because there is usually a line to take a picture with the Southernmost Point buoy.
But that is something you can judge when you arrive. If it’s a short line and you’re able to find quick and easy parking near the Southernmost Point (and you don’t care about walking around more!), then you may be just fine with 30 minutes!
Where is the free parking near the Southernmost Point?
If you don’t mind a little bit of walking, then you can look for free street parking down the road, and you don’t need to pay anything to see the Southernmost Point!
For free street parking, locate the Southernmost Point on google maps, and head east on South Street from there.
Starting a few blocks down, you will find free street parking on South Street.
You can drive around that area to look for more free street parking.
To get you started, you can look for Ana’s Cuban Cafe (aka the Southernmost Deli and Groceries) which is at the intersection of South Street and Simonton Street. (map)
From there, in the direction away from the Southernmost Point is free parking.
You can drive around the blocks from there. South Street isn’t the only street with free parking.
Look around for signs (or lack therof) to confirm it’s free parking!
Also be mindful that you are not parking in “no parking” zones, like in front of driveways.

Of course it will depend on where you find an open parking space, but maybe you will walk 10 minutes to get to the Southernmost Point.
It’s not a bad walk at all, as it’s a touristy area.
You’ll pass by some “southernmost” branded shops and restaurants. You can eat in this area, and you can do your souvenir shopping.
You can also stop by the “southernmost beach” on your way to the Southernmost Point.
After you see the Southernmost Point, you can also leave your car behind and take the free Duval Loop bus to other parts of Key West. (bus route map)
