Fort Wilderness in December
Decorating your campsite is a thing at the Fort Wilderness campground in December!
You can drive around the campground loops (or walk around the campground loops!) during the day to take a look at the campsite decorations and Disney holiday inflatables!
You can also go around the Fort Wilderness cabin loops too.

You can also do the same at night for a different experience to see the holiday inflatables and decorations lit up!

Aside from viewing the outdoor Disney holiday campsite decorations, there are also organized holiday recreation activities at Fort Wilderness. (More about the Fort Wilderness December schedule below!)

Can you go to the Fort Wilderness holiday activities even if you’re not staying there?

According to a planDisney panel parent, anyone can visit Fort Wilderness. This means that even if you’re not staying at the Fort Wilderness campground or Fort Wilderness cabins, you can also go to Fort Wilderness to get into the holiday spirit!
Parking throughout Fort Wilderness is extremely limited. Instead, it will be best to park at the parking lot that is near the entrance of Fort Wilderness. From there, you can take the Fort Wilderness bus that will get you to all the noteworthy places throughout the campground. There is a bus stop near this Fort Wilderness parking lot.
Otherwise, you can also rent a golf cart for the day at Fort Wilderness. You can pick up your golf cart rental from near the Fort Wilderness entrance.
Unless you want to just drive around and see the holiday decorations… then you can just drive through the campground to see all the Disney holiday decorations without parking!

Disney World camping weather in December
Is the weather in Orlando ideal for camping in December?
Well, it can be!
You might need an extra layer or 2 in the evening, but overall, December can be a perfect time for camping at Disney World.
The daytime temperatures are comfortable and while the overnight lows might get a little chilly, it’s not too cold.
During my Disney World camping trip in December (and end of November), the highs were in the 70s and the lows were in the 50s.
While I did see a mosquito here and there in the evening, it was very minimal. So, I’d also say because of these cooler temperatures, it was a pretty bug-free camping experience at Disney World too!

Holiday activities at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground in December

This is based on the December calendar I received when staying at the Fort Wilderness campground in December 2021! Of course, everything is subject to change! And for future years, there may be variations, but this can give you an idea!
You will get a December calendar to refer to on your arrival date when you check in to Fort Wilderness. This will give you the exact timings as well.
1. Holiday-themed poolside activities at Meadows Swimming Pool

Every Friday in December at the main Fort Wilderness Campground pool (Meadows Swimmin’ Pool), there are “Festive Friday Poolside Activities.”
In December 2021, this is scheduled at Meadows Swimmin’ Pool for 11:30am and 1:30pm.

There are also other activities on other days of the week.
2. Holiday-themed Campfire Theater Activities
Every Friday in December at the Fort Wilderness Campfire Theater, there is the “Festive Trivia Challenge.”
In December 2021, this is scheduled at the Campfire Theater for 6pm. After the Festive Trivia Challenge, you can stick around for the campfire and movie under the stars!

Sunset time at Disney World in December is around 5:30pm.
3. Holiday-themed Movie Under the Stars
The “Movie Under the Stars” can also be found at the Campfire Theater.
Unless you are staying at Fort Wilderness for 2 weeks, then there will be a different movie every night during your stay at Disney World. (There is no movie on December 31 since there will be New Year’s Eve activities that night.)
In December, there are both classic Disney movies and holiday-themed Disney movies.
You can watch holiday Disney movies at Fort Wilderness, including:
- The Santa Clause
- The Santa Clause 2
- Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas
- Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
- The Muppets Christmas Carol
- The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

In December 2021, the movie under the stars at the Fort Wilderness Campground is scheduled for 7pm.
4. Horse-drawn holiday sleigh ride
In December, you can get a sleigh ride around Fort Wilderness to see the Disney holiday decorations!
This is an evening holiday sleigh ride with times from 5pm to 9:30pm. Reservations are encouraged.
According to the people of Disney World:
You’ll board your “sleigh” for a 25-minute ride at the new Tri-Circle-D Ranch Barn near the Settlement Bus Depot at The Cabins and Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.
Carriages fit up to 4 adults, or 2 adults and 3 small children.
Each horse-drawn holiday sleigh ride costs $75.
See more details about the horse-drawn holiday sleigh ride at Disney World.
5. Christmas Eve holiday activities

On December 24, there are Christmas Eve activities at Fort Wilderness:
- Holly Jolly Golf Cart Extravaganza at 2:30pm
- Winter Wonderland Festival at 5:30pm
Renting golf carts is a thing to get around Fort Wilderness. Some people also bring their own.

Decorating your golf cart is also a thing in December!

6. Christmas day holiday activities

On December 25, there are Christmas activities at Fort Wilderness:
- Interactive Holiday Puzzle Hunt at 10:30am
7. New Year’s Eve holiday activities

On December 31, there are New Year’s Even activities at Fort Wilderness:
