One of the less obvious statues that’s a bit more hidden is the Gandhi Statue!
Yes, there is a Gandhi Statue in Hawaii!
Well, it’s not exactly “hidden” in any sense, but it’s slightly more inland so it doesn’t get as much natural foot traffic as other statues in Waikiki!
But even the Gandhi Statue is just a 1-2 minute walk from the nearest beach in Waikiki!

Why is there a Gandhi statue in Hawaii?

Hawaii is a most appropriate home for a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, as his life and values are in complete harmony with the spirit of Aloha.
Aloha (unconditional love), pono (justice), and maluhia (peace) are some of the core values of Hawaiian culture.
👆 Gandhi is known as the “Father of India.” For another “father” statue, there is also a “Father of International Surfing” statue in Waikiki.

Where is the Gandhi statue in Honolulu?
The Gandhi Statue is located towards one edge of Waikiki along Kapahulu Avenue.
This is the quieter side of Waikiki.
This is the side of Waikiki you’ll find Queens Beach (top Oahu snorkeling spot), Kapiolani Park, and the Honolulu Zoo.
The Gandhi statue is located right near the Honolulu Zoo.
The Gandhi statue is open to the public!
The Gandhi statue is located along a public walkway near the Honolulu Zoo entrance, so it is open to the public at any time.
Also nearby the Gandhi statue is a big banyan tree. This is one of the many banyan trees you can see in Waikiki.
