So if you’re just spending a really short time in Bryce Canyon and want do a Bryce Canyon winter hike without committing yourself to a full winter hiking trail, then the hike from Farview Point to Piracy Point might be perfect!
Okay, so calling this a “hike” might be generous as it’s pretty short.
But, it is a trail!
And in winter, it turns into a snow-packed trail, and it can be a taste of some winter hiking through snow!
This hike will keep you above the canyon, and it’s flat.
Listed as a 0.3 mile trail one way makes the walk from Farview Point to Piracy Point 0.6 miles round trip.
Farview Point is a viewpoint with a parking lot that’s along the main road of Bryce Canyon National Park.
So you might make it a 15-20 minute stop at Farview Point as you are driving through the park.
According to the National Park Service, here’s what you can see at Farview Point:
- Aquarius Plateau (pink cliffs)
- Kaiparowits Plateau (grey cliffs)
- Molly’s Nipple (white cliffs)
- Kaibab Plateau on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon

When you enter Bryce Canyon National Park, you can get a map of the park and locate Farview Point. This will be on the main road that goes through the park.
Or, you can locate Farview Point on Google Maps too.
A common way to do the scenic drive through Bryce Canyon is to first drive all the way to the end of the road to Rainbow Point. Then on the way back, you can hit the viewpoints and scenic overlooks, as they are all located on the right side, meaning it’s way more convenient for pulling over.

What else to do with one day in Bryce Canyon?!
Another trail that you can make into a short hike is the Navajo Loop Trail.
Even if you’re only giving yourself a few hours in Bryce Canyon, you’ll probably end up at Sunset Point. This is a famous viewpoint that you can drive to. This is where the Navajo Loop trail starts. You don’t need to do the whole trail. Just go down the trail a little bit and return, and it can give you a taste of winter hiking into the canyon! It’s steep with possible icy patches so ice traction devices and/or hiking poles can be a very good idea!
If you like the idea of being above the canyon at all times like the trail to Piracy Point (aka walking on a trail with continuous canyon views from above!) then you may also consider the Rim Trail. You can start this by parking at Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, or Inspiration Point. You’d make it an out-and-back which means you can make it as short or as long as you’d like. In winter, you can hike 4 miles of the Rim Trail, making it around 8 miles round-trip from Inspiration Point to Fairyland Point and back.
