👆 When the Moana banyan tree was planted at the Moana Surfrider courtyard, it was only 7 feet tall. Currently, the Moana Surfrider banyan tree is over 75 feet and and 150 feet wide! This is a historic tree that was one of the first to be recorded on Hawaii’s Rare and Exceptional Tree list.

 

The Moana Surfrider not only has a historic tree, it is also a historic hotel in Waikiki.

It is a Westin resort.

 

 

It’s a beachfront hotel and you can see the banyan tree with a walk along Waikiki Beach.

Moana Surfrider Courtyard: How to see the Moana banyan tree

Again, you can take a walk along Waikiki Beach to see the Moana banyan tree from beachside.

Or, you can walk through the hotel to the Moana banyan courtyard.

The Moana Surfrider is located directly along Kalakaua Avenue, which is a main road that goes through Waikiki.

Once you are near, you will know which one is the Moana Surfrider because it’s obvious and iconic!

 

 

You will see the grand architecture of the Moana Surfrider.

 

 

Walk into the hotel through the front and keep walking straight and it will lead you outside to the Moana banyan courtyard.

As soon as you get outside, the banyan tree will be right in front of you!

 

 

Look up and around to see how the different tree trunks are actually connected together at the top!

 

 

Then, after you’ve had a look around, keep walking, and you will be at the Moana Surfrider beach bar.

 

 

Then you can walk out towards the beach to look at the Moana banyan tree from there!

You will also get views of Diamond Head from the beach in front of the Moana Surfrider!

Along with the Moana Surfrider courtyard, there are banyan trees in Waikiki at Kuhio Beach, Honolulu Zoo, Queens Beach, and Kapiolani Beach Park.

While none of the Waikiki banyan trees are the largest banyan tree in Hawaii, it is still a sight to see!
