Sanibel Island is one of the islands in Florida that you can drive to, and you can drive your own car to get there.
If you are looking for parking to go to a Sanibel Island beach, there are a few beach parking lots that you can go to and hope there is parking.
And yes, you may have to hope!
It’s quite possible that you will arrive to a full parking lot.
Then, once you are able to find an open parking spot, depending on the Sanibel Island beach parking lot of your choice, it will be a walk of a few minutes to get to a public beach access!

- Blind Pass Beach parking (small parking lot)
Generally listed in order you will come across them as you are driving through Sanibel Island.

Cost of Sanibel Island beach parking
There is no free public beach parking on Sanibel Island.
The cost of beach parking on Sanibel Island is $5 per hour. See current fees.
The Sanibel Island beach parking is self-pay. You will look for the parking payment station and go there after you park.
Is there any free parking on Sanibel Island?!
If you are going to the beach, then no, there is no free beach parking on Sanibel Island.
If you are not going to the beach, then yes, there is free parking on Sanibel Island. If you are going to shops or restaurants, then you will find free parking.
Sanibel Island toll
The way to get over to Sanibel Island is by driving across a bridge.
You will be driving across the Sanibel Causeway Bridge to get to Sanibel Island.
There is the Sanibel Causeway toll to drive across the bridge to Sanibel Island.
The cost of the toll to Sanibel Island is $6 per car if you have a pass. If you don’t have a pass, it’s $9 per car. See current fees under Sanibel toll plaza.
If you have a Lee County pass, a Florida SunPass, or any other kind of compatible pass, you can drive straight through and you will automatically be charged.
There is no toll to leave Sanibel Island.
Pay once and you’re done! Unless you go back the next day… 😆

Sanibel Island parking lots near public beach access
1. Lighthouse Beach parking
Lighthouse Beach is a part of Lighthouse Beach Park.
There are several parking lots in Lighthouse Beach Park.
The main parking lot is right near the popular Lighthouse Beach.
There is a beach path directly from the parking lot to Lighthouse Beach.
The main Lighthouse Beach parking lot is not small, but it’s also not huge.
Because it’s popular, it’s possible that you might arrive to find a full Lighthouse Beach parking lot.
You can also drive around to go to the other parking lots, including the parking lot near the Sanibel City Pier.
NOTE: Lighthouse Beach has been closed the longest following Sanibel Island’s hurricane destruction. Check for updates before you go.

2. Gulfside City Beach parking
I didn’t make it here, but Gulfside City Beach is another Sanibel Island beach.
This is a Sanibel beach that isn’t as well-known, and it has a smaller parking lot.
3. Tarpon Bay Beach parking (Trost parking lot)
Tarpon Bay Beach is officially at the Tarpon Bay Road Beach Park.
There is a Tarpon Bay on Sanibel Island, but you aren’t actually going to Tarpon Bay for the beach.
Tarpon Bay Beach is at one end of the road called Tarpon Bay Road. This is the gulf coast end of the road.
On the other end of Tarpon Bay Road to the north is the actual Tarpon Bay. (map)
For most people, the driving directions you will want to use will be “Tarpon Bay Road Public Beach Parking,” also called the Trost parking lot. (map)
This is a short walk down the road from Tarpon Bay Beach.
The only parking available directly at Tarpon Bay Beach is if you have a disability permit.

4. Bowmans Beach parking
The Bowmans Beach parking lot is pretty big, so it’s one of the Sanibel Island beach parking lots that may be easier to find an open parking spot.
The Bowmans Beach parking lot is not directly at the beach.
It’s not that long of a walk, but maybe you’ll walk 5 minutes or so to get to the beach.

5. Blind Pass Beach parking
The Blind Pass Beach parking lot is on the far end of Sanibel Island.
Blind Pass is the channel of water between Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.
The bridge that goes over Blind Pass that connects Sanibel Island and Captiva Island is called the Blind Pass Bridge!
You can drive across this bridge, and you can also walk across this bridge for great views of both Sanibel Island and Captiva Island!
Blind Pass Beach is at Blind Pass on the Sanibel Island side of the bridge. Turner Beach is at Blind Pass on the Captiva Island side of the bridge.
There are beach parking lots on both sides of Blind Pass, although they are both pretty small parking lots.
This means it usually requires a little bit of luck to find an open spot at the Blind Pass Beach parking lot!
