Hi there!
Blind Pass Beach is located on Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida right near Captiva Island.
You can actually see Captiva Island from Blind Pass Beach!
This is not one of the safest beaches on Sanibel Island from swimming because of the currents in the channel between Sanibel and Captiva.
So there are many shelling beaches on Sanibel Island.
One of them that is often listed as one of the best shelling beaches on Sanibel Island is Blind Pass Beach.
You can see a lot of shells walking along the shoreline!
Of course, *asterisk, your experience may vary!
In any case, Blind Pass Beach is a good beach for shelling on Sanibel Island.
You can find lots of seashells on the shores of Blind Pass Beach.

You can stop by the National Shell Museum on your way to Blind Pass Beach!
According to Lee County, live shelling is not allowed on Sanibel Island. This means that you can’t take home anything you find that is alive. Otherwise, you can take home shells you find at Blind Pass Beach and other Sanibel Island beaches.

👆 Blind Pass: To the left is Blind Pass Beach and Sanibel Island. To the right is Turner Beach and Captiva Island.
Blind Pass is the channel of water between Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.
The bridge that goes over Blind Pass that connects Sanibel Island and Captiva Island is called the Blind Pass Bridge!
You can drive across this bridge, and you can also walk across this bridge for great views of both Sanibel Island and Captiva Island!
There are shelling beaches on both sides of Blind Pass, on both Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.
Blind Pass Beach is at Blind Pass on the Sanibel Island side of the bridge. Turner Beach is at Blind Pass on the Captiva Island side of the bridge.
You can see Turner Beach and Captiva Island from Blind Pass Beach.

Turner Beach is also known as one of the best shelling beaches of Sanibel and Captiva.
⚠⚠⚠
It is said that there could be strong currents around Blind Pass, so it’s best not to go swimming directly in the channel area.

Sanibel Island visitor center

Since shelling is your goal (and even if it’s not), be sure to stop by the Sanibel Island visitor center!
You’ll look for signs for the visitor center right after you get on Sanibel Island.
Most importantly, you can pick up a shell identification guide!
You can also pick up a map of the shelling beaches of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.

Cost to go shelling at Blind Pass Beach on Sanibel Island
In order to go shelling on Sanibel Island, you’ll need to drive across the Sanibel causeway bridge.
There is a toll for driving the bridge to Sanibel Island.
If you have a Lee County pass, a Florida SunPass, or any other kind of compatible pass, you can drive straight through and you will automatically be charged.
The cost of the Sanibel Island toll is around $6 per car if you have a pass. If you don’t have a pass, it’s $9 per car. See current fees under Sanibel toll plaza.

There is also a Sanibel Island beach parking fee, and this includes at the Blind Pass Beach parking lot.
It is an hourly fee, and you can expect to pay around $5 an hour for parking. See current fees.

So the starting cost to go shelling at Blind Pass Beach is $11! ($6 toll + $5 for one hour)
But since you will probably be shelling at Blind Pass Beach for more than an hour, it will likely cost you minimum $16 for the Sanibel toll and Sanibel Island beach parking.

👆 In 2022, the cost of Blind Pass Beach parking was $5 per hour.
And, if you want to go to Blind Pass Beach, you also have the option of parking at the Turner Beach parking lot on Captiva Island. From this parking lot, you’ll walk a few minutes across the bridge to get to Blind Pass Beach.

👆 Bridge to Blind Pass Beach. If the Blind Pass Beach parking lot is full, you can try the Turner Beach parking lot. If you find an open parking spot there, you can walk a few minutes across the bridge to get to Blind Pass Beach. Or, you can just go to Turner Beach!

👆 If you decide you don’t want to wait around for a parking spot to open up at Blind Pass Beach, you can drive to another shelling beach like Turner Beach parking (0.2 miles away) or Bowmans Beach parking (2.5 miles away). Out of these beaches, Bowmans Beach will probably be the easiest parking since it has the (much) bigger parking lot!

Sanibel Island shells at Blind Pass Beach
My Blind Pass Beach shelling trip was in April 2022. Your experience may vary!
Blind Pass Beach is on google maps, so you can use that to get you there. (map)

👆 Explore the Sanibel Island map of Blind Pass Beach.
Once you get on Sanibel Island, it will be about a 20 minute drive to get to Blind Pass Beach.
At the first main intersection you’ll see once you get on Sanibel Island, you will follow the sign towards Captiva Island. (The other direction is for Lighthouse Beach, another popular Sanibel Island beach.)
You’ll pass by the National Shell Museum if you want to make a stop there. (map)
Eventually, you will see the Blind Pass Beach parking lot on the left side of the main road!
If you’re not paying attention, you might drive right by it before you even realize it’s there!
If you drive over a bridge, you are now on Captiva Island and you have gone too far! At that point, you might as well see if there’s any parking at the Turner Beach parking lot which is just across the bridge!
The Blind Pass Beach parking lot is just before the bridge.

Then you can look for the Blind Pass Beach parking payment station.

You will find a couple of Sanibel Island public beach access paths directly at the parking lot.
It’s a short walk to the beach!

You can see the Blind Pass Bridge off to the right.

And then you can start your shelling beach walk along Blind Pass!
You will see mounds of shells!
You can start looking for shells at Blind Pass Beach!
You can find shells in the water too, so you might want to wear water shoes when you go shelling!

And then you can further round the bend to continue your shelling walk along the gulf coast!
