Turner Beach at Blind Pass

👆 Blind Pass: To the right is Turner Beach and Captiva Island. To the left is Blind Pass Beach and Sanibel Island.

Blind Pass is the channel of water between Captiva Island and Sanibel Island.

The bridge that goes over Blind Pass that connects Captiva Island and Sanibel Island is called the Blind Pass Bridge!

You can drive across this bridge, and you can also walk across this bridge for great views of both Captiva Island and Sanibel Island!

There are shelling beaches on both sides of Blind Pass, on both Captiva Island and Sanibel Island.

Turner Beach is at Blind Pass on the Captiva Island side of the bridge. Blind Pass Beach is at Blind Pass on the Sanibel Island side of the bridge.

Blind Pass Beach is also known as one of the best shelling beaches of Sanibel and Captiva.

⚠⚠⚠

It is said that there could be strong currents around Blind Pass, so it’s best not to go swimming directly in the channel area.

Captiva Island visitor center

The Captiva Island visitor center is actually the Sanibel and Captiva visitor center on Sanibel Island.

Since shelling is your goal (and even if it’s not), be sure to stop by the Sanibel and Captiva Island visitor center!

You’ll look for signs for the visitor center right after you get on Sanibel Island.

Most importantly, you can pick up a shell identification guide!

You can also pick up a map of the shelling beaches of Captiva Island and Sanibel Island.

Cost to go shelling at Turner Beach

To get to Captiva Island, you will first need to drive through Sanibel Island.

So in order to go shelling on Captiva Island, you will need to drive across the Sanibel causeway bridge.

There is no toll for the bridge to Captiva Island from Sanibel Island, but there is a toll for driving the bridge to Sanibel Island.

If you have a Lee County pass, a Florida SunPass, or any other kind of compatible pass, you can drive straight through and you will automatically be charged.

The Sanibel Island toll is around $6 per car if you have a pass. If you don’t have a pass, it’s $9 per car. See current fees under Sanibel toll plaza.

There is also a Captiva Island beach parking fee, and this includes at the Turner Beach parking lot.

It is an hourly fee, and you can expect to pay around $5 an hour for parking. See current fees.

So the starting cost to go shelling at Turner Beach is $11! ($6 toll + $5 for one hour)

But since you will probably be shelling at Turner Beach for more than an hour, it will likely cost you minimum $16 for the Captiva Island beach parking and Sanibel toll.

👆 In 2022, the cost of Turner Beach parking was $5 per hour.

And, if you want to go to Turner Beach, you also have the option of parking at the Blind Pass Beach parking lot on Sanibel Island. From this parking lot, you’ll walk a few minutes across the bridge to get to Turner Beach.

👆 Bridge to Turner Beach. If the Turner Beach parking lot is full, you can try the Blind Pass Beach parking lot. If you find an open parking spot there, you can walk a few minutes across the bridge to get to Turner Beach. Or, you can just go to Blind Pass Beach… as long as it’s not closed due to beach erosion! (Check for current updates.)

👆 If you decide you don’t want to wait around for a parking spot to open up at Turner Beach, you can drive to another shelling beach like Blind Pass Beach parking (0.2 miles away), Alison Hagerup Beach parking (3.5 miles away), or Bowmans Beach parking (2.7 miles away). Out of these beaches, Bowmans Beach will probably be the easiest parking since it has the biggest parking lot!

Captiva Island shelling at Turner Beach

My Turner Beach shelling trip was in April 2022. Your experience may vary!

Turner Beach is on google maps, so you can use that to get you there. (map)

Once you get on Sanibel Island, it will be about a 20 minute drive to get to Turner Beach.

At the first main intersection you’ll see once you get on Sanibel Island, you will follow the sign towards Captiva Island. (The other direction is for Lighthouse Beach, a popular Sanibel Island beach.)

You’ll pass by the National Shell Museum if you want to make a stop there. (map)

Eventually, you will find yourself driving across a bridge!

It’s a small bridge from Sanibel Island to Captiva Island, and you will be driving across the channel called Blind Pass.

Start paying attention once you get on this bridge.

You will see the Turner Beach parking lot immediately after crossing the bridge.

If you’re not paying attention, you might drive right by it before you even realize it’s there!

There is a bathroom at the Turner Beach parking lot.

You will find the Captiva Island public beach access directly at the parking lot.

It’s a short walk to the beach!

Then, once you have walked down the beach path to Turner Beach, there are basically 2 sections of beach you can go to.

You can go to Turner Beach on the side of the Blind Pass channel with views of Sanibel Island.

And then you can go to Turner Beach on the other side where you’ll see the Captiva Island shoreline extend further to the north.

Whichever side you choose, you can start looking for shells at Turner Beach!

I walked a little bit mostly around the side of the beach that’s not along Blind Pass.
