Hi there!

So the Kissing Rocks can make for an easy stop as part of your drive along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway in the Black Hills!

The Kissing Rocks (aka the Dice) can be seen from the road so it can be easy to locate… if you are looking out for it!

If you aren’t looking out for it, it’s easy to drive right past it without noticing it!

👆 Spot the Kissing Rocks along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway! The massive rocks are located in the Spearfish Creek.

You won’t be able to really see the rocks “kissing” just by driving by.

So if you do want to get a better look of the rocks, then you will want to stop and get out of the car!

There is a small parking area along the side of the road not too far from the rocks. It might be a walk of a couple of minutes.

So if you want to stop, then you’ll park and make a simple walk to Spearfish Creek (also pretty much along the road) to get a closer look at the Kissing Rocks!

There is a trail from the road to the creek that you can follow to the rocks.

Since you will see the rocks from the road, you can just generally walk toward the rocks!

According to the people of Visit Spearfish, the Kissing Rocks are here because they came crashing down to the bottom of Spearfish Canyon from above.

Here’s a bit about my stop at Kissing Rocks in Spearfish Canyon!

I ended up stopping by the Kissing Rocks on the drive from Mount Rushmore to Devils Tower. (That was a drive from Mount Rushmore to Yellowstone with Spearfish Canyon along the way!)

This means that I was driving in the direction of Savoy SD to Spearfish SD.

Coming from Mount Rushmore, my drive along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway started at Savoy.

Once at Savoy, I first saw the popular Spearfish Canyon waterfalls of Spearfish Falls and Roughlock Falls.

Then, it was off to drive the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway from Savoy towards Spearfish!

First I stopped by the Long Valley picnic area which is also along Spearfish Creek.

And then it was onwards on the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway!

At the time I went, the Kissing Rocks was not on google maps.

But the Eleventh Hour Gulch and Victoria Lane are, so you can use that as your reference point.

The Kissing Rocks are just south of both of these. (map)

Once you are near, you can start looking along the creek for massive rocks.

If you are looking for it, it will be obvious and you will see it.

There is a small parking area a couple minutes walk in both directions of the road from the Kissing Rocks.

If you want to see the Eleventh Hour Gulch too, then you can use the parking area near there to see both the kissing rocks and the eleventh hour gulch.

So after you park, you can walk towards the rocks!

Then you can look for the trail to get down to Spearfish Creek for a better look at the rocks!

And then once you’ve taken in the views of the rocks, you can walk to the Eleventh Hour Gulch!

Then drive just a little further and you can see Victoria’s Tower.

Then further along the drive, other stops I made were Bridal Veil Falls and Split Rock.

And that’s about Kissing Rocks in Spearfish Canyon!

I went to see the Kissing Rocks in September 2021. Your experience may vary!
