Things to know about camping at Brimley State Park




1. Brimley State Park is about 45 minutes from the Mackinac Bridge once you cross over into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Brimley State Park is located in the eastern part of the UP.
If you were to drive directly to Brimley State Park, then once you cross over the bridge it’ll be about a 45-50 minute drive.
But, you might want to make a day out of getting to Brimley State Park from the lower peninsula! You can stop by the Huron boardwalk, the Castle Rock overlook, and the Point Iroquois Lighthouse. From Brimley State Park to Tahquamenon Falls State Park is about a one hour drive.
2. There’s a trail to the Lake Superior shoreline directly from the campground.



3. There’s a sandy beach for swimming



Although, Lake Superior water does tend to be cold, even in summer! But people do go swimming in Lake Superior at Brimley State Park.
4. It’s a beach on the sunset side, so you can go swimming in Lake Superior as you watch the sunset!


5. The campground is for tent camping and RV camping

6. Some campsites may feel like they are close to one another.






7. The Brimley State Park campground is a “modern” campground.
As opposed to a “rustic” campground.
8. There are regular bathrooms along with hot water showers.







9. You can get electricity at your campsite.


10. There are faucets throughout the campground for drinking water.

11. There’s a garbage dumpster for campers.

12. There’s an RV dump station.

13. There are cabins at Brimley State Park.
Similar to camping, except shelter is provided! Bring your own everything.

In July, there are days where sunrise is before 6am and the sunset isn’t until after 9:30pm in Brimley MI.

How to make camping reservations at Brimley State Park

This is the official website for making Michigan State Parks camping reservation.
You can choose Brimley State Park, and then go from there.
You’ll be able to find an updated campground map too that shows current availability of individual campsites for your dates. This can give you an indication of how soon you may want to book.
If you click on an individual campsite, it will also give you any noteworthy description of the site.
You can reserve the cabins the same way you do the campsites, but you’ll want to select the “lodging” part. These are called mini-cabins.

Cost of camping at Brimley State Park campground

In 2020, the cost of camping at Brimley State Park was around $25 per night. There is an additional reservation fee. See here for updated camping fees.
The cost of Brimley State Park cabins are around $52 per night.
Also, as a Michigan State Park, a Michigan recreation passport is required for entry.
If you’re a Michigan resident, hopefully you already have the annual recreation passport, in which case there’s no additional fee.
If you don’t have the recreation passport, or you’re from out of state, for Michigan residents the annual pass is around $17 when purchased at a state park and for out-of-state residents it’s around $34. See current fees here.
