ALOHA!
So there are grand beautiful views to be found all around the island of Lanai!
And one of the ways to get those beautiful views is by hiking the Koloiki Ridge Trail!
This is a Lanai hiking trail that comes with ocean views and mountain views.
And…
You can see the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Molokai on this hike!
The Koloiki Ridge Trail hike is listed as 4.5 miles round trip, and you might want to give yourself 2-3 hours to complete the hike.
How to get to the start of the Koloiki Ridge Trail without a car
The start of the Koloiki Ridge Trail is located near the town area of Lanai City.
If you’re staying in town, you may consider walking to the start of the trail.
For example, from Hotel Lanai (which is in a pretty central area of town), the start of the Koloiki Ridge Trail is 1.4 miles away, so this means that it will add a total of 3 miles to your hike.
Otherwise, you can get dropped off by the Lanai shuttle to get a bit closer to the start of the Koloiki Trail.

And how to get there!
Once again, the Koloiki Ridge Trail starts somewhat near the town area of Lanai City in the middle of the island.
You’ll be going away from town, towards the Four Seasons Sensei Lanai wellness resort (aka Four Seasons Koele). It’s around here that you’ll find the Lanai Adventure Center (aka Koele Adventure Center) towards the back.
And it’s just beyond the Lanai Adventure Center that you’ll find the start of the Koloiki Ridge Trail!
I did not see the Koloiki Ridge trailhead or Lanai Adventure Center (or Koele Adventure Center) on google maps. But I do think this is the location on google maps if you want to take a look for the visual.
So instead of google maps, what can make finding the trailhead super easy is by using the mapsme app. The last I used it, this was a free app. You’ll then download the Hawaii map. With your GPS on, you can use this to generally navigate to the start of the hike, as the Koloiki Ridge Trail is mapped out on mapsme.
So once you turn on to the road towards the Lanai Adventure Center, you’ll pass by a golf course. You’ll keep going until you get to the end of the road, which is where the Lanai Adventure Center is located. (There are bathrooms at the Lanai Adventure Center.)
And at the end of the road, to the left of the Lanai Adventure Center, you’ll see a smaller paved path, and that’s where you’ll continue on to “officially” start hiking on the Koloiki Ridge Trail! You’ll see an informational sign post.
So after you’ve read the trail sign and taken a picture of the trail map just in case, you can officially start your hike!
You’ll first pass by the Lanai Adventure Park while continuing on a paved trail, and then shortly after that you’ll head into the forest to continue the hike.
There are signs along the way to direct you in the right direction so you can stay on the trail.
Through the pine trees you’ll come to a more open area for views of Molokai on the left and Maui on the right. And then from there it’s just a little bit longer until you’ll reach the “end” of the trail.
You’ll then reach an informational sign post with views of the Maunalei Valley which will signify that you’ve reached the end of the Koloiki Ridge Trail! You can continue to take in the views of the neighbor islands and ocean views!
And then you can go back the way you came!
So in theory it shouldn’t be difficult to follow the trail back. I didn’t have any problem making it to the overlook (the “destination”) of the trail. But um, I wasn’t paying attention and I missed a turn-off on the way back and ended up walking longer than I had to. I think I ended up on a part of the Munro Trail that I didn’t need to be on.
So just be paying attention to where you came from and it shouldn’t be a problem for you!
You will be heading back to Koele. And there are signs for hiking and mountain biking. So you’ll want to follow the hiking sign back if you see it.
And then… what to do after your hike?!
You can head into town in Lanai City, head to the Richard’s Market grocery store for picnic food, and then have a picnic at the Dole Park that’s right nearby!
And that’s a bit about hiking a Lanai ridge trail!
