ALOHA!
So if you want to have some very Hawaiian food when you’re in Hawaii, then poke can be it.
Poke (po-kay) is raw fish.
You can get poke with different seasonings, and it’s often served in the form of a poke bowl.
If you want to try poke that’s not so expensive, you can find individual packages of poke in some grocery stores in the fresh food section.
It would be best if you can also find packaged rice to eat it with, also possibly available in grocery stores, possibly in the regular aisles.
But if you want to try poke when you’re on the Big Island, one places in Kona that you can give poke a try is at the restaurant called Da Poke Shack.

A few years ago Da Poke Shack was even named the #1 restaurant in the U.S. by Yelp.
This restaurant is in Kona, and it’s located along a main road that runs along the Kona coast.
This is located almost directly across from one of the hostels in Kona, called My Hawaii Hostel.

There’s no seating inside, but there is limited seating outside.

Da Poke Shack hours
Eating a poke bowl or poke plate from here would be best as a lunch or early dinner because of the open hours.
The hours are 10am to 5pm.

As noted on the sign, it says if they are closed during these hours that it’s because they have no more poke left.
