Is May too early for a cruise to Juneau?!
In short, NO!
I went to Juneau in May and below is what is what it was like for me!
Well, this is just 2 days in Juneau out of 31 days in May. 😆
But those 2 days in Juneau in May were both sunny!
That said, anything goes in Alaska!
And that includes Juneau in May!
As “they” say, weather can change quickly in Alaska!

I went to Juneau in May, and I had a perfect time going to Mendenhall Glacier, doing a seaplane tour across the Juneau icefield, the Taku Lodge salmon bake, and… whale watching!
That said, it seems like May is still early for whale watching in Juneau and the rest of Alaska.
I still did see whales in Juneau in May, but the summer is more prime whale watching in Alaska.
While you do have a chance to see whales, it’s best to manage your expectations if you are planning on going whale watching in Juneau in May.
That said, the best picture I’ve taken of a whale was in Juneau in May!!
It’s taken with my measly phone, but I still think it’s a great picture, if I do say so myself. 😂 See below!

My plan for Juneau cruise port:
- morning + lunch: Taku Lodge Feast & 5-Glacier Seaplane Discovery with Taku Lodge Wings Airways (Princess shore excursion) 9:30am to 1pm
- afternoon + evening: Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls on my own

- morning: Juneau whale watching tour (Princess excursion)
- afternoon: Mendenhall Glacier Lake canoe + hike with Liquid Alaska
