Collection of live shells is not allowed on Captiva Island.

Does Captiva Island have public beaches?
Yes, Captiva Island does have public beaches!
There are only 2 public beach parking lots on Captiva Island.
On top of that, the Captiva Island beach parking lots are quite small and you may have difficulty finding parking.
So, if you are set on going to Captiva Island, then you’ll just want to bring your patience with you as it might take a little bit of luck to find parking!
At both parking lots, it wouldn’t be unusual to see cars waiting around to see if anyone will leave soon.
Best Captiva Island public beach access:
Listed in order from south to north. You will arrive on Captiva Island from the south.


But on the flip side, smaller parking lots with limited access will tend to mean that you will likely not have a crowded beach on Captiva Island!
Otherwise, there are beach parking lots on Sanibel Island that are bigger (aka easier parking), and you may be happy with going to one of those Sanibel Island beaches!
Cost to go to Captiva Island beaches

While there is no beach entry fee of sorts for Captiva Island beaches, there are beach parking fees.
There is no free public beach parking on Captiva Island.

There is also an entry fee of sorts for Captiva Island in the form of a toll bridge.
To get to Captiva Island, you will first drive through Sanibel Island.
The toll will come on the bridge before you get to Sanibel Island.
So you’ll need to pay the Sanibel toll to get to Captiva Island beaches.
If you know you’ll be driving on a lot of toll roads in Florida, the sunpass is worth it! Or else those admin fees will get you!
You can order this online before you get to Florida, or you can buy it at some rest areas when you arrive in Florida. The Florida Welcome Center is one rest area where you can buy a sunpass… and get free orange juice while you’re at it!

So if you will be going to Captiva Island as a day trip, then the cost to go to a Captiva Island beach is the Captiva Island beach parking fee and the Sanibel toll fee.
You will also drive across another bridge to get to Captiva Island from Sanibel Island, but there is no toll for this bridge to Captiva Island.
How much is parking at Captiva Beach?
The Captiva Island beach parking fees will depend on which parking lot you go to. For a 2 hour Captiva Island beach trip, you may pay $10 or $25.

Captiva Island beaches with public access
1. Turner Beach







Turner Beach is one of the 2 main Captiva Island beaches.
You can find shells on Turner Beach!
Turner Beach is at the south end of Captiva Island, right near Sanibel Island.
You might have difficulty finding Captiva Island beach parking availability at the Turner Beach parking lot since it’s a small parking lot.
There is a small bridge from Sanibel Island to Captiva Island, and you will be driving across the channel called Blind Pass.
Start paying attention once you get on this bridge.
You will see the Turner Beach parking lot immediately after crossing the bridge.
If you’re not paying attention, you might drive right by it before you even realize it’s there!

You will find the Captiva Island public beach access directly at the parking lot, so it’s a short walk to the beach!

There are basically 2 sections of beach you can go to.
You can go to Turner Beach on the side of the Blind Pass channel with views of Sanibel Island.





While you may see people swimming on the Blind Pass channel side, it’s said that there could be strong currents around Blind Pass, so it’s best not to go swimming directly in the channel area.

And then you can go to Turner Beach on the other side where you’ll see the Captiva Island shoreline extend further to the north.




Turner Beach is also where I saw the snowy egret walking along the Captiva Island shoreline… and flying away!




And then, the Blind Pass bridge is short, so by parking at Turner Beach, you also have the option to walk across the bridge to go to Blind Pass Beach on Sanibel Island that’s just on the other side of the bridge.

Similarly, if you want to go to Turner Beach, you can also look for parking at Blind Pass Beach.
Right before the bridge on the Sanibel Island side is where you will find the Blind Pass Beach parking lot. It is also a small parking lot, and you can also pass right by it before you know it if you’re not paying attention!
If you park at Blind Pass Beach, it’s a short walk across the bridge to get to Captiva Island and Turner Beach!

2. Alison Hagerup Beach







Alison Hagerup Beach is one of the 2 main Captiva Island beaches.
You can find shells on Alison Hagerup Beach!
Alison Hagerup Beach is the north Captiva Island beach of the main beaches.
You might have difficulty finding Captiva Island beach parking availability at the Alison Hagerup Beach parking lot since it’s a small parking lot.
The Alison Hagerup Beach parking lot is located at the end of a road.
You will find the Captiva Island public beach access directly at the parking lot, so it’s a short walk to the beach!










The cost of the Alison Hagerup Beach parking fee is $25 for 2 hours or $40 for the day.
