So you have decided to go to Cave of the Winds in Niagara Falls on the American side!

GOOD CHOICE!

If you want an up close and personal experience with one of the waterfalls of Niagara Falls NY, then Cave of the Winds will be worth it!

You will get to feel the power of Niagara Falls from the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls!

Your destination for Cave of the Winds is the Hurricane Deck.

And on your way to the Hurricane Deck, your feet WILL get wet!

 

 

So it will be best to wear some sort of waterproof shoes when you do Cave of the Winds!

 

 

Previously, you did not have to worry about bringing your own waterproof shoes. Free sandals used to be included with your Cave of the Winds ticket, but this is no longer the case.

Now, you DO need to bring your own waterproof shoes!

You can confirm this on the official Cave of the Winds website:

As we work to ensure that we are doing our part to care for the Earth, we have phased out distribution of the famous Cave of the Winds sandals.

Please bring footwear that can get wet.

 

 

You can wear any shoes you want, but your feet will absolutely get wet, so if you don’t want to deal with wet shoes, you should wear sandals (with traction!) or water shoes!

You will be doing a lot of walking on wet surfaces which have potential to be slippery! (Use the railings to go up the wet stairs!)

You might want to bring extra footwear just to do Cave of the Winds, depending on how comfortable your waterproof shoes are for general walking around the rest of the day.

Is there shoe storage at Cave of the Winds?

There is no shoe storage area at Cave of the Winds.

When I did Cave of the Winds in July 2021, nothing was given to put your shoes in.

You also can’t leave your shoes laying around somewhere with the intention of picking them up on your way out.

 

👆 No unattended bags at Cave of the Winds… No unattended shoes!

 

So at the minimum, you may want to bring a plastic bag so you don’t have to be holding your shoes individually.

But more than just a plastic bag, I recommend bringing a small backpack!

It seems a little annoying to have to be holding shoes or a bag in your hand when you are walking around and doing the Cave of the Winds experience!

You want to be hands-free so you can keep taking pictures without the annoyance of holding a bag in your hand! (Be sure you have a waterproof phone case for Niagara Falls!)

 

 

Instead, if you have a backpack, you can put your shoes inside your backpack and walk around hands-free!

 

 

You can simply wear the backpack under your poncho, and that will keep your backpack dry too. (Cave of the Winds also gives you a poncho for free… or rather it is included in the price of your ticket. 😜 Google reviews indicate they are still providing ponchos.)
