The cheapest parking for the South Haven beach of Oak Street Beach is free if you use the street parking.

There is also an Oak Street Beach parking lot if you already have a beach parking sticker.

 

 

So South Haven is a Lake Michigan beach town, and there are many beach access points along the shoreline in South Haven.

Oak Street is one of the spots where you can get beach access in South Haven.

Aside from South Beach and North Beach, the way it goes in South Haven is that if you drive along North Shore Drive, you’ll come across a number of beach access spots.

A few of these beaches are named after the street that they intersect with.

Drive along North Shore Drive, and you will come to Oak Street!

The Oak Street Beach has a designated parking lot.

There is no parking payment kiosk located here though, so you will already need to have a beach parking sticker from the City of South Haven in order to park in the paid parking area.

 

 

Otherwise, if you want to visit this beach, you can likely find free street parking along North Shore Drive.

 

 

There is also a bike rack at the Oak Street parking lot.

 

 

Then, after you park, you’ll head to the end of the parking lot, and you’ll see the path to this Lake Michigan beach!

You can choose from 2 short trails. One is a boardwalk to the beach, and the other is a mostly sandy trail.

 

 

In summer 2020 (when pics in this blog post are from), Lake Michigan was reported to have high water levels.

For South Haven beaches, this means less of a sandy shoreline.

Lake Michigan water levels can vary from year to year!

 

 

While Oak Beach is a public beach, this is one of the South Haven beaches that has private property on both sides of the public portion of the beach. This means that there’s limited beach access on either side of Oak Beach. There will likely be signs informing you of this. You are allowed on the private beach only if you keep moving. (Meaning, you can make it a beach walk along the Lake Michigan shoreline in South Haven.)

 

 

Finally, while Lake Michigan is a lake, it’s a big lake! In many ways it can act like an ocean. So take care out there!
