Hi there!
There’s a classic sign in Malibu along the famous Pacific Coast Highway in California – a sign that reads “21 miles of scenic beauty.”
Because well, Malibu gives you 20+ miles of scenic beauty as you drive in Malibu along the coast!
Welcome to Malibu!!
27 miles of scenic beauty in Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway?!
If you thought you saw pictures online of a sign that says 27 miles of scenic beauty, you aren’t mistaken!
The Malibu sign did used to read that it was 27 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway, but apparently that wasn’t the accurate distance.
So they say that now they’ve changed the sign to reflect how long you can actually be driving on the PCH in Malibu.
You can get to the classic Malibu sign without a car!
…which means you can make it a stop as you’re driving along the Pacific Coast Highway too
There are a few of the same Malibu signs along the PCH.
So if you’re driving, you’ll have a few chances to take a picture with the sign.
The spot of the Malibu sign pictures below is listed as “Malibu – 21 miles of scenic beauty” on google maps, located right near Trancas Canyon and the Starbucks that’s just off the PCH. Here’s the spot on the map.
Bus stop near Malibu sign
The Malibu sign near Trancas Canyon is a great scenic spot to get a picture of the sign. And it’s not too far away from a bus stop, so this is one of the places you can go if you want to do one day in Malibu without a car!
The name of the bus stop is called “Trancas Canyon / Pacific Coast Highway” and the Malibu sign is about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop.
You can use Google Maps to help you navigate by bus from downtown LA to Malibu or by bus from Santa Monica to Malibu.
If you haven’t booked your accommodation yet and you’ll be going to Malibu by bus, consider staying in Santa Monica! It’s possible to find a direct bus to Malibu from Santa Monica and it’s closer than LA.
What else to do in Malibu after you’ve seen the sign
Once you reach the sign and take pictures, you can keep walking in the same direction to get to El Matador State beach for amazing views! The Trancas Canyon bus stop is the last bus stop in Malibu on the coast, so then you’ll have to walk back to that same bus stop.
If you have some time to spare before the next bus back to Santa Monica (towards Los Angeles), you can head into the Trancas Country Market for some snacks or food from the hot bar. There’s also a seating area outside where you can eat your food. And if you’re feeling up to it, when you’re on your way back, you can also stop off to do the Corral Canyon hike. A landmark to look for on Google Maps for the start of the trail is “Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market & Patio Cafe.” There’s a bus stop right nearby.
