Hi there!
Yes, there is uber in Juneau.
However, personally, I would not count on being able to use uber if you are trying to get somewhere from the Juneau cruise port… or from somewhere else to get to the cruise port.
You can try, but just also have a back-up plan.
This is my experience at checking out uber in Juneau.
Your experience may vary!
There do seem to be people who have taken an uber from the Juneau cruise port to Mendenhall Glacier.
So maybe it will work out for you!

👆 It doesn’t seem like there are very many uber drivers available in Juneau!

I was at the alternate location of Tracy’s King Crab Shack, which is around a 15 minute walk from the cruise port (vs a few minutes walk to get to the location that’s closer to the cruise port).
I was looking to get to the start of the Gold Creek Flume Trail next, which according to google maps was around a 1 mile walk away.
With all the walking I had done in the previous days (nearly 20,000+ steps each on Glacier Bay day and in Skagway) my feet hurt at the end of those days so I was thinking to perhaps minimize my walking.
So I looked on the uber app to see how much an uber in Juneau might cost to take me 1 mile.
Cost of uber in Juneau
For a 5 minute drive near downtown Juneau, the uber app was showing the cost of the uber would be around $10.
The cost of uber can vary based on what time you want to get the uber and the availability of uber drivers.
If you are curious how much a longer uber ride will cost, you can check at home even if you are not currently in Juneau.

You can select your departure location that is not your current location, and then you can select your destination.
When doing this kind of search, it’s best to do it at a time of day you think you will be taking the uber.
Remember to be in Alaska time!
The number of cruise ships in port can also make a difference in uber availability.
If you want to see how many cruise ships will be in port when you are in Juneau, you can check cruisemapper.
More below about my experience with using the uber app in Juneau!

Potential problem #1 with uber in Juneau
Well, problem #1 was that I was not able to get data very well through t-mobile at first!
I have had a few problems with t-mobile in Alaska.
I tried a few times to search for an uber just out of curiosity to see how much it would cost, and data was VERY slow.
As in, it was not even allowing me to search for an uber because it wasn’t able to connect.
Then, it actually showed that there was NO connection!
Well that’s just great.
But I was persistent in getting this to work so tried a few more times and waited and waited, and finally I was able to get through to the next step which was to input where I wanted to go and to see the uber drivers who were nearby.

👆 I was not very far from downtown Juneau and the uber app wouldn’t even recognize my current location because of my data was not very good!

👆 The uber app even showed that I had no internet of cell service when I was near downtown Juneau!
Potential problem #2 with uber in Juneau
Problem #2 is that it didn’t seem like there were very many uber drivers available nearby!
And who knows if one of those few drivers would even accept my request.
Now, I don’t know how accurate the app usually is, but I have used uber enough recently to know that if it’s a city that’s easy to use uber, you can actually see countless cars on the map in the uber app.
With only 2 ubers that appeared on the uber map in Juneau, it seems like there aren’t very many uber drivers available.
Because of this, I would think that it’s probably not something that you can count on being able to use!

👆 Finally the uber app picked up my current location. And there are not very many uber drivers near downtown Juneau? (It defaulted my destination to the Driftwood Hotel.)

Personally, if I’m making plans for a short time in Juneau when arriving by cruise ship, I would not count on Juneau.
But of course, your experience may vary!

Uber alternative
A more reliable option may be to take a taxi in Juneau.
Depending on where you want to go, you may also use the public bus in Juneau.
I went by Mendenhall Glacier by bus!
Taking a bus to Mendenhall Glacier isn’t for everyone, though!
GOOD LUCK USING UBER IN JUNEAU!
