Oh hey!

Do you want to take the train from Anchorage to Whittier in 2023?

Me too!

I will give you the disclaimer that I am in research phase, so please keep that in mind.

I have an Alaska cruise booked that is a one-way southbound cruise in September 2023 from Anchorage to Vancouver.

A “cruise from Anchorage to Vancouver” is actually a cruise from Whittier to Vancouver.

Anchorage is the major city with an airport “near” Whittier.

I’m flying in to the Anchorage airport, so I was looking at how to get from Anchorage to Whittier.

Mainly, I was looking at the train. (There are bus transfers too.)

Can you take the train from Anchorage to Whittier?

Alaska is known for its train rides, so you want to take a train if you can, right?! (In addition to the White Pass Railway that you’re already taking in Skagway that is… ðŸĪŠ Princess has a lot of combo tours to do with the White Pass Railway, so check the Princess excursions!)

Yes, there is a train from Anchorage to Whittier.

The train from Anchorage to Whittier is called the Glacier Discovery train.

As is a good idea for all cruises, you will want to arrive in Anchorage a day before your cruise starts.

The Anchorage to Whittier train is in the morning, and you can take the train the morning of the cruise. It seems like there are many people who do this.

The Glacier Discovery train is scheduled to depart the Anchorage train station at 9:45am.

My Princess cruise has a departure time from Whittier of 8:30pm.

The Anchorage to Whittier route doesn’t offer the GoldStar ticket, so that’s one less decision you have to make! ðŸĪŠ

You don’t have to figure out whether or not it’s worth the extra money to book the Goldstar!

Should you book your train ticket for Anchorage to Whittier NOW… or will you probably be safe by waiting a bit?

Luckily, the official Alaska Railroad website makes it easy to figure out!

There’s an availability calendar!

It will tell you whether there are a good number of tickets left for any given day, or if there are only a limited number of tickets left… or worse, if they are sold out for that day!
