Hi there!
So South Haven is a Lake Michigan beach town, and there are many beach access points along the shoreline in South Haven.
Woodman Street is one of the spots where you can get beach access in South Haven.
Aside from South Beach and North Beach, the way it goes in South Haven is that if you drive along North Shore Drive, you’ll come across a number of beach access spots. A few of these beaches are named after the street that they intersect with.
Drive along North Shore Drive, and you will come to Woodman Street!
There is a designated parking lot at Woodman Beach. This is a paid parking lot, and a beach parking sticker from the City of South Haven will allow you to park here. I don’t recall if there was a payment kiosk here (sorry!), although I lean towards thinking there is not one.
Even if you show up to Woodman Beach with no beach parking sticker and there is no pay station, there is a chance that you can find free street parking along North Shore Drive.
Woodman Beach is closer to town, so there may be more of the free street parking spaces taken up.
If a parking space is available further than you’d like you walk, you may consider trying one of the other South Haven beaches that’s a little further away from town.
You’ll basically just keep driving away from town on North Shore Drive until you come to the next beach.
After you park, you can head to the end of the Woodman Beach parking lot and the beach is practically right there!
While Woodman Beach is a public beach, this is one of the South Haven beaches that has private property on both sides of the public parts of the beach.
You’ll see fencing, and you’ll also likely see signs indicating where the public beach ends and the private beach begins.
You can be on the private section of the beach if you will always be moving. Meaning, you can make it a beach walk along Lake Michigan in South Haven!
Finally, while Lake Michigan is a lake, it’s a big lake! In many ways it can act like an ocean.
So take care out there!
And that’s a bit about the South Haven beach at Woodman Street!

Here are some ideas for an Upper Peninsula road trip!
The most important places in the UP to know about are Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Tahquamenon Falls State Park, and the bubbling Big Spring of Kitch-iti-kipi.
Make it a Michigan camping trip to remember by going camping near Lake Superior.
Lighthouses are also a thing, so stop by one of the Lake Superior lighthouses (or many more!), like Whitefish Point and/or Crisp Point. You can also go to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum to explore why Lake Superior has a reputation for being Shipwreck Coast and the Graveyard of the Great Lakes.
Many people don't make it over to the western part of the Upper Peninsula. But if you want to, you will want to know about Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Then, on your way back down south, you can make a detour to go to Mackinac Island (ferry required) or Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. (Or, you can do these things on your way up north!)
